Direct-to-consumer mattress retailer honored in the “Most Socially Responsible Company of the Year” category for its robust social impact program

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – November 29, 2017 – Leesa Sleep has been named a silver winner in the Most Socially Responsible Company of the Year category for the 2017 Best in Biz Awards, the only independent business awards program judged each year by prominent editors and reporters from top-tier publications in North America.

Global direct-to-consumer online luxury mattress retailer and certified B Corp, Leesa, was founded with a purpose in mind. Since the company’s start in January 2015, co-founders David Wolfe and Jamie Diamonstein have been committed to building a company that measures its success as much by its impact on the world as by its financial performance. In just under three years, the company has donated over 22,000 mattresses and 10 million nights of sleep to nonprofits that serve people seeking refuge from homelessness, domestic risk and human trafficking. Leesa’s robust social impact program, comprised of three components: One-Ten, One-Earth, and One-Community, all address different ways to support the community and achieve social good.

  • The One-Ten program assures that one mattress is donated for every ten sold to non-profits helping people seeking refuge from homelessness, domestic risk and human trafficking
  • The One-Earth program plants one tree for every mattress sold
  • The One-Community program supports local communities through volunteering and donations

Each year, Best in Biz Awards’ entrants span the spectrum, from some of the most innovative local start-ups to the most recognizable global brands. The seventh annual program was particularly hotly contested, with more than 650 entries from an impressive array of public and private companies of all sizes and from a variety of industries and geographic regions in the U.S. and Canada. Best in Biz Awards 2017 honors were presented in 65 categories, including Company of the Year, Fastest-Growing Company, Most Innovative Company, Most Socially Responsible Company, Best Place to Work, Support Department, Executive of the Year, Most Innovative Product, Best New Product, App, Event and Website of the Year.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by Best in Biz Awards for our mission and contributions to eradicate bedlessness, said David Wolfe, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Leesa Sleep. “A key part of our brand mission is to provide a better place to sleep for everybody, and through our social impact program, we are able to not only contribute to our community, but further drive awareness around the complex issue of homelessness and the importance of achieving social good.”

Since 2011, winners of Best in Biz Awards have been determined based on scoring from independent judging panels composed of prominent editors and reporters from some of the most respected newspapers, TV outlets, and business, consumer, technology and trade publications in North America. Best in Biz Awards’ uniqueness stems, in part, from this distinct composition of its judging panels, allowing it to best leverage the judges’ unparalleled expertise, experience and objectivity to determine award winners. The 2017 judging panel included: Accounting Today, AdWeek, Associated Press, Atlanta Tribune, Business News Daily, Consumer Affairs, Entrepreneur, eWeek, Forbes, Harvard Business Review, Healthcare Innovation News, Inc., Investment Advisor Magazine, Laptop, MediaPost, Pittsburgh Business Times, Security Products Magazine, Wired, WLRN and Yahoo Tech.

“Judging the Most Socially Responsible Company of the Year category in this year’s Best in Biz Awards was nearly impossible. These companies set the bar for best practices in the corporate world,” said Gina Jordan, WLRN-Miami Herald News Tallahassee Bureau, judging her second Best in Biz Awards program. “It’s difficult to choose a winner when they’re all doing so much good. Kudos to the leaders and employees who are making a positive difference. Companies large and small would do well to follow their example.”
