What makes Leesa different – and more luxurious – than any other mattress you’ve tried?
One word: Avena™.
Our Leesa mattress contains a product similar to latex called Avena™, which provides better support than memory foam alone.
We strategically placed a two-inch layer of Avena™ on top of a two-inch layer of memory foam to allow constant airflow for a cooler night’s sleep. That’s right – a soft, cool mattress all night, every night.
The numerous benefits of Avena™ include:
- Fire retardant
- Will not crumble or crack
- Holds up better through humid conditions
- Manufacturing process is eco-friendly
- 100% recyclable
- Made in the U.S.A.
- CertiPUR-US® Certified, which means it’s made without ozone depleters, mercury, lead and formaldehyde
Want a deeper scientific explanation? Sure thing.
Avena™ is considered a latex alternative because it has physical properties similar to latex. For example, latex and Avena™ have a high support factor (also known as compression modulus). In that way, Avena™ outperforms and is different from memory foam. Additionally, both Avena™ and latex have a high resiliency, a measure of the product’s “spring” factor. Our 2” Avena™ top layer sports an Indentation Force Deflection, or IFD, of between 20 and 26, with a density of 3.65 pounds per cubic foot (pcf).
Want even more science? No problem.
In our testing, Avena™ has generally outperformed various latex grades in the ASTM D1055 Flex Fatigue Test. The percent firmness loss of Avena™ ranged between 5% to just under 10%; various commercially-available latex had firmness losses ranging from just under 10% to more than 25%. Avena™ also has a higher resistance to tearing than latex, when tested to ASTM D3574 Test E.
